2014 Mercedes S-class

The S-class is Mercedes-Benz’s flagship. A great battleship of a limo that sits at the top of its range - it promises lavish comfort, the highest levels of safety, incredible refinement and a combination of first-rate build quality and truly astounding luxury features. And because many are owner-driven in other markets, it drives and steers beautifully too.

The big question however is, just how much has Mercedes taken the game ahead over the already very capable outgoing car? Mercedes also has a new mission plan for the new S-class. Not only does this new car have to take on competition from the likes of the BMW 7-series, the Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ, an extra long wheelbase version will take on Bentley and Rolls Royce too. To get it up to this new level, Merc has allegedly stuffed it to the brim with tech that would have gone onto the still-born new Maybach

As a result the biggest change is on the inside, which is good, because if there was one area that the earlier car was weak it was the cabin. Comfort levels were already brilliant on the outgoing car and so were build quality and materials used; brilliant not a word used loosely here. But this car takes things to the next level. The insides are a fantastic blend of traditional leather and wood craftsmanship and the latest digital tech. Think of it as a sort of a perfect no compromise harmony between something like a Bentley and an Audi. Also present is an elegant simplicity to the dashboard, which neatly wraps around into the doors, with plenty of chromed vents and massive screens on the instrument panel that can be configured to display just about anything.

The thrones in the front are simply massive and legroom at the rear is surplus as well. There’s actually 14mm more shoulder room than its predecessor up front, and the rear has 14mm of extra space for your knees as well. The rear-seat configurations include a ‘First Class’ set-up where the seat can be seriously reclined and you also get a pillow-like padded headrest, ‘lazy boy’-like pop out support for your thighs and airliner-like full-sized fold-out tables. There’s a hot stone massage function, an active perfuming system and a Burmester audiophile grade audio. New safety features include a rear belt bag, which incorporates an airbag within the seat belt strap, night vision and radar cruise control with an automatic braking function as options. Connectivity has also been upped with a WLAN Hot Spot unit that now forms part of the multimedia system.

Mercedes SLC 2014

Under the hood of the S500 there’s a new refined 448bhp turbocharged V8 with a velvety shift quality. When you are cruising, the gearbox upshifts quickly and revs drop down below 2000rpm for truly tranquil fast-lane progress. It is also capable of incredible bursts of acceleration with 0-100kph coming up in 4.8 seconds, very quick for a car of this size. The long gearing and fantastic stability also allow it to cross massive distances effortlessly, all the while pampering its occupants with low levels of noise and fantastic ride comfort. The S Class uses a new system known as Magic Body Control that features twin-cameras that look at the road ahead and adjust the suspension before the car actually gets to the bump. The new S also gets an active suspension system known as Active Body Control (ABC) that keeps body roll in check with the help of sensors mounted in the wheel arches.

Ride quality is also helped by the greater rigidity of the chassis. The new body shell of the S-class now features an outer skin made from aluminium and the internal structure uses aluminium in combination with hot-formed high-strength steel. Offsetting the slight increase in weight is a dramatic increase in rigidity, which goes a long way to smoothen out the ride.

Also, class-leading are the aerodynamics of the car. A drag coefficient of just 0.24 is impressive for a car of this size, with the S300 BlueTec Hybrid dropping down to an even more efficient 0.23 thanks to adjustable louvres in the cooling system, extensive underbody panelling and detailed work to the wheel houses.

Initially it doesn’t that impressive from behind the wheel. There is a bit of vagueness at low and medium speeds from the steering and it does have a tendency to wander over heavily cambered roads. But up the pace and the car tightens up impressively, the Active Body Control keeping the car level as you scythe through corners with the confidence of a GT.

We also drove the new 350 diesel. This car gets the same V6 engine as in its predecessor with slightly more power and torque. Acceleration, as expected, is brisk, and there's plenty of torque for that initial punch. It feels super smooth on the inside and, for the most part, feels inaudible too. You only get a bit of gruffness when you pull the engine hard, which is a bit of a shame on a car like this.

While not as visually arresting, the new S-class blends elegance with a sharp, new edge to its design. The body of the car is more sculpted, visually more compact and less stretched out. The grille is more prominent and larger and the headlights are more angular. The dimensions of the car however are quite similar to the car it replaces. The best bit is that Mercedes has managed to maintain a consistency in the styling all the way from the A-class to the S-class.

The new S-class is big step forward for Mercedes. Much more limo than large saloon, it features a vastly superior cabin, an up-to-the-minute electronics suite and levels of comfort currently only seen on competitors from Rolls Royce and Bentley. No the diesel engine doesn’t feel like a massive step forward and the now ageing seven speed gearbox could have been improved further too. But apart from that, even at an expected price of Rs. 1.05 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the S350 Diesel and Rs. 1.20 Crore for the S500 petrol, this is probably the best car in the world.

The Mercedes-Benz R129

The Mercedes-Benz R129 automobiles were produced from 1989 through 2002. They were sold under the SL-Class model names. The R129 replaced the R107 SL-Class in 1989 and was in its turn replaced by the R230 in 2003 (US).

Designed in 1984, the R129 was based on the shortened floorpan of the Mercedes-Benz W124[2] and featured many innovative details for the time, for instance electronically controlled damping (optional) and a hidden, automatically extending roll-over bar. The R107's rather dated rear diagonal swing axle gave way to a modern multi-link axle. The number of standard features was high, with electric action for the windows, mirrors, seats and convertible top.

Mercedes-Benz CLA

The Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class is a new compact executive car four-door sedan based on the platform of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class compact car and the B-Class compact car,  formally launched at the January 2013 North American International Auto Show. The car was previewed by the 2012 Concept Style Coupe.

There was a time when automakers didn’t want the public to know what they were to be debuting at auto shows—we might argue that time continues to be now, but we digress. Manufacturers strived to savor the plaudits that come along with a well-received reveal that was a tremendously kept secret until the moment prior to lifting the sheet. And yet, with all the subtly of a sledgehammer, Mercedes-Benz has made sure everyone has gotten a good look at its upcoming CLA-class four-door sedan.

We saw it in a Super Bowl ad. Mercedes posted its own spy photos of it on its Facebook page. And now, as Motor Trend first reported, the Stuttgart-based brand has announced that the CLA45 AMG will debut at the New York auto show this March. Perhaps staying mum isn’t really all that important when you’re standing atop Benz’s empire, noting that the CLA won’t have any direct competition until Audi can get its A3 sedan into production. In fact, Mercedes is so eager to get people talking about its new compact four-door coupe that it’s offering to fly contest winners to New York to witness the car’s unveiling and throw $500 and hotel accommodations at them, too.

Or, perhaps, staying mum really isn’t all that important when you consider that the CLA45 AMG will look largely the same as the CLA250 the brand debuted at the Detroit show in January. It’s especially unimportant when the folks at Mercedes and AMG already have told anyone who would listen about the car’s 2.0-liter turbo four making in the realm of 350 horsepower and producing 295 lb-ft of torque, or its seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, or its all-wheel-drive system. So while the CLA45 AMG won’t be much of a surprise when the sheet comes off its curvaceous flanks next month, we’ll continue to clamor for it—largely because of its Affalterbach upbringing—as if it were something we’d never seen before.

Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

Mercedes-Benz's executive express just got a little closer to supercar territory. For the 2014 model year, an upgraded version of the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG will boast new styling inside and out, more power and – for the first time ever – all-wheel-drive.

By sending power to all four wheels, Mercedes-Benz says that the E63 AMG will make the most of its 550 or – on the new S-Model configuration – 577 horsepower. Regardless of trim, all E63s make use of an updated version of the automaker's 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, a hand-built showpiece that has been upgraded from the previously-standard 518 horsepower.

The “normal” E63 AMG 4Matic now boasts 550 horsepower and 531 lb-ft. of torque, the latter of which is spread from 1,750 to 5,250 rpm. Opting for a new E63 AMG S-Model 4Matic boosts those figures to 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft. of torque. The E63 sedan now hits 60 mph from a complete standstill in 3.6 or 3.5 seconds and tops out at 155 or 186 mph for the standard and S-Models, respectively.

But the biggest news comes underneath the E63, where a performance-oriented version of the automaker's 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is newly standard on North American-specification models. Normally, the system distributes 33 percent of the power to the car's front wheels and 67 percent out back. Select Sport Handling mode from the E63's computer and a torque vectoring system applies the inside rear wheel's brakes to essentially prevent understeer.

In addition, Mercedes-Benz says that the E63 is now truly four-seasons compatible thanks to a multi-plate clutch that distributes power between the axles. The S-Model upgrades the traction situation even further with a limited slip rear differential. Sending all that grunt to all four wheels is an updated version of the AMG division's seven-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.

In certain global markets, the E63 AMG will continue to come standard with rear-wheel-drive, but the U.S. market is treated to all-wheel-drive exclusively.

On the ride and handling front, the E63 uses rear air springs that have been tuned for an even more neutral feel in the S-Model. Compared to the standard E-Class, the E63 AMG 4Matic's front axle is 1.9 inches wider to improve high speed cornering stability. An electromechanical steering system directs the new 19-inch alloy wheels, which are an exclusive 10-spoke matte titanium gray on the S-Model. Carbon ceramic brakes are optional on S-Model configurations, which are notable also for their exclusive red-painted calipers.

Looking the part Visually, the E63 follows the form of its more pedestrian 2014 E-Class sedan brethren. Gone are the outgoing model's quad headlamps, replaced instead by a single lamp per side. A special AMG “A-wing” grille and a unique body kit are accented by V8 Biturbo badging on the fenders. At the rear, the body kit is finished out by a black diffuser insert and an AMG dual exhaust setup.

Helping the S-Model stand apart are glossy black touches up front and a black “S” on the trunk lid. Inside, the E63 once again uses unique sports seats. A leather and Alcantara synthetic suede steering wheel is standard. A new IWC-designed analog clock is exclusive to the AMG variants of the E-Class.

Carbon fiber exterior goodies are optional, as is a new AMG Night Package with extra high gloss black trim bits on the car's exterior. For those seeking the ultimate visual touch, a carbon fiber engine cover is another extra-cost option. The E63 AMG 4Matic sedan goes on sale during the summer of 2013 in the United States.

Nya Mercedes E 63 AMG officiell – slår alla konkurrenter

SLS AMG Supercharged GT - Auto Tuner Kicherer

Auto Tuner Kicherer has pushed the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG to a Supercharged GT. Tuned with a supercharger unit to give out 700 horsepower, versus the original 583 horsepower, and coupled with a stainless-steel sports exhaust system, adjustable shocks, carbon fiber rear diffuser, and a hand crafted vertical fan grilles, carbon fiber interior trims, matte black paint job and Kicherer’s own 20-inches & 21-inches alloy wheels, this beast will easily catch 100 km/h from zero in just 3.4 seconds and go over 300 km/h.

Iz radionice popularnog njemačkog tunera dolazi još jedan dragulj vrijedan svake pažnje.

Specijalist prerade AMG-ovih izvedbi "trokrake zvijezde" ponudio je preradu modela SLS 63 AMG. Mercedesov cestovni bolid nakon opsežnog tuninga nudi 710 KS i 840 Nm. Prevedeno, 100 km/h će postići za 3,4 sekundi, a maksimalac je debelo preko 300 km/h.

Tunirani agresivac nosi oznaku Supercharged GT koja jasno otkriva tajnu povećanja snage. Nadalje, prerada uključuje ekstenzivno korištenje karbona, kao i mat finiš karoserije. Ponuda uključuje i novi set naplataka, promjera 20 cola sprijeda i broj većih straga.
